So i like this guy...can u help a sista out here plz?

so i like this guy lets call him michael and i asked him to go to an upcomming dance with me. in the nicest and sweetest way possible he told me no he said "im realllllly sorry but i already have plans...but i realllly want to go with you!" i said thats cool and we went to cl. that was about a week ago and we still have been friends as usual like nothing ever happened. my friend jessie asked him today during homeroom (i dont have hr with them) y he couldnt go like does he really already have "plans" or he just doesnt want to go. she said she will tell me tomorrow morning cause all we have togeth is 1st per and i have 1st and 7 per with michael. so if he just doesnt like me im gunna back off and jus be friends and enjoy being friends but if he just really CANT go then should i ask him if he wants to hang sometime? what should i do? and sorry its kinda lonngg! :) thnaks for reading if you got this far! :D
