How to get a product manufactored?

I am wanting to get a light my boyfriend has designed made for him, has a surprise. maybe a prototype. He has a 3ds model of it and it i think he has a cad drawing. But I don't have an idea of where to start really. Would anyone be able to give me a few tips on how to get it going??
